Location

The latitude and longitude of Spain are 40•N and 4•W.

 

It is north of Africa.

It is south of France.

It is east of Portugal.

It is west of the Mediterranean Sea.

Place

Physical Characteristics: Central Spain is a high, flat land called La Meseta. There are many mountain ranges, one of which is in the southeast called La Sierra Nevada mountain range. There are 3 different climates: Mediterranean, semi-arid, and oceanic/marine west life.

 

Human Characteristics: The population of Spain is about 47 million people, with the capital at Madrid. The culture is very known for the music, dance, and bullfights, but there are much more aspects to the culture than that. The history of Spain is filled with artistic heritage. People painted, composed music, and even invented new things, like the invention of the Spanish guitar.

Human Environment Interaction

Humans Affect Environment: Deforestation is destroying the forests because of the forest fires, unplanned cutting, and poor farming. Air pollution and water pollution are also a major problem. 

 

Environment's Response: Annual temperatures have risen to over 18•C every year. The Mediterranean Sea near Spain has its temperatures risen about .7•C-1.1•C. Precipitation is also affected. The variability of rainfall is enormous.

Movement

People: Spain has a variety of transportation modes. The most commonly used are trains and cars. Both are well developed. Flying and ferries are also used, but they are not as common as the 2 aforementioned.

 

Goods: The main exports of Spain are vehicles, machines, oil, and electronic equipment. The main imports are oil, vehicles, machinery, electronics, and medicine.

 

Ideas: Spain was one of the first countries to start exploring the world, so they had a head start in spreading the culture to other people. Spain also has many, many tourists, which can bring in new culture.

Region

Spain is in Mediterranean Europe.

 

Mediterranean Europe has warm climate, which brings in many tourists and can provide for agriculture. The temperatures are not as harsh as the northern parts of Europe, which can drive people to live or visit Spain. Beaches can also bring in people.
