It is south of Switzerland and Austria. 

It is a peninsula in the Mediterranean Sea.

Physical Characteristics: Italy is on the Italian Peninsula, with the Alps to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The Po River also runs through the country. Some other landforms are lakes and a second mountain range called the Apennines. The climate is the Mediterranean climate.

 

Human Characteristics: The population is about 60.5 million people, with the capital being Rome. The Italian culture is known to hold the most number of heritage sites in the world. There are thousands of monuments, paintings, statues, etc. The Italian Renaissance is known to be the golden age of painting.

Human Environment Interaction

Humans Affect Environment: Some major environment issues are air pollution from transportation, polluted water. Although people have set some rules for industrial waste, it is not usually followed. 

 

Environment's Response: The overall temperature has 

raised 0.76•C over a course of 50 years. The minimum temperature has risen more than the maximum. This affects glaciers, as they could melt by 80% by the end of the 21st century. Precipitation has also been affected, with a decrease by 14% from 1951-1956.

People: Trains and cars are the main mode of transportation, with trains being especially popular in Northern Italy. Buses and airplanes are also used, but not as often.

 

Goods: The main exports for Italy are medicine, petroleum, cars, and vehicle parts. The main imports are petroleum, cars, and medicine.

 

Ideas: The Roman Empire once thrived on the Italian Peninsula, which created a basis for the Italian culture. Italians have also explored the world, conquering other nations. Italy is also a frequently visited country by travelers, who pick up parts of the Italian culture to spread elsewhere in the world.

Italy is in Mediterranean Europe.

 

Mediterranean Europe has very a warm climate, which can bring in tourists and/or immigrants. There are also beaches that many people would love to visit. The land is great for agriculture because the soil is not too dry and the temperature is not too cold.
