Physical Characteristics: Latvia is low elevated, but still higher than sea level. Lakes and rivers are located in Latvia, its deepest lake being Dridzis, which is 214 ft. deep. The climate is temperate, and the seasons are easily distinguishable. 

 

Human Characteristics: The population is about 2 million, with its capital being Riga. The culture of Latvia includes agricultural meals, which are based off of other countries surrounding it. Ice hockey is also a very popular sport in Latvia, followed by basketball.

Humans Affect Environment: Pollution is big in Latvia. Water pollution is from poor sewage systems and chemical wastes. Harmful chemicals going into the air make air pollution.

 

Environment's Response: Acidic rain has fallen, the same as many other countries in Europe. The temperature has risen about .8-1.4•C in the last century. There is also less snow in Latvia fom 1951-2000, by 4.5%.

Movement

People: Trains and cars are commonly used to get around in Latvia. Airplanes are also used; about 5 million people each year ride on a plane. Ports are usually used for the deportment of goods and oil.

 

Goods: The main exports for Latvia are petroleum, wood, alcohol, broadcasting equipment, and medicine. The main imports are petroleum, medicine, cars, and broadcasting equipment.

 

Ideas: Many nations came to Latvia, taking over land. In the process, the culture of the invaders spread to the Latvian people, mixing in with the existing culture, making it to what it is today.

Latvia is in Eastern Europe.

 

Eastern Europe has many different cultures. People can choose to go to Latvia to experience something new. Latvia also has a coast, which can help bring in people during the summer when it is not so cold.
