It is below Germany and Czech Republic.

It is above Italy and Slovenia.

It is west of Slovakia and Hungary.

It is east of Switzerland.

Place

Physical Characteristics: The physical features of Austria are the Alps, the Pannonian Plain, the Danube River, and the Bohemian Forest. The climate is moderate.

 

Human Characteristics: The main language is German and the main religion is Roman Catholic. The population is around 8,000,000 people, last recorded in July 2013, many of them living in Vienna, the capital of Austria.  There is a vast history to Austria, ranging from classical music composers, such as Mozart and Haydn, to having the some of the oldest places in the word, such as the Zoological Garden in Vienna.

Human Environment Interaction

Human Affect Environment: There is a lot of pollution and radiation in Austria because the amount of cars increased and a radioactive disaster that happened in 1989. Because of the skiing and organized agriculture, they are affecting the Alps. 

 

Environment's Response: Climate change has risen, along with less snow in the winters and an increase in natural disasters such as avalanches, mudslides, etc. Glaciers are also melting. The most pronounced aftermath of the environment's response is the downfall of ski companies.

Movement

People: The people mainly get around by bus, tram, taxi, or metro, although the latter is only in Vienna. Cars can also be taken, but they are not as popular as the former listed.

 

Goods: Exports are major in Austria. Some of the major ones are machinery, metals, and car parts. Imports are mainly German products, along with some Italian and Swiss products, and because Austria has a very good economy, the exports and imports are transported in many ways, including by train and airplane.

 

Ideas: Austria has a very large history. Many times Austria has had wars, which brought in a new set of people to rule over the land. Now, culture gets around from Austria to the rest of the world by people traveling from place to place, bringing new ideas to spread with them.

Region

Austria is in the Western Region of Europe. 

 

Because the west part of Europe tends to have very contrasting seasons, it affects how the people settle in Austria. Some people like to live near the Alps to ski, or some people travel to experience the summer heat.
